Streaming Time

Target audience: grade 1–12

The lesson takes place in the museum’s new exhibition on Latvian history “Streaming Time.” In this exhibition, historical artifacts and engaging digital content, combined in a unique design, tell the story of the Latvian land and its people from the earliest times to the present day. The passage of time is depicted through people’s belonging to larger communities—families, social classes, congregations, associations, or movements and political parties—leading up to the present day, when we are experiencing new forms of cooperation and shared goals. The lesson also explores the history of Latvia, highlighting the most significant events and changes.

For older schoolchildren (grade 9–12), the learning process is designed to be interactive, following the guide’s instructions and the highlights of the exhibition. The activity takes place in groups, with students exploring the exhibition on their own and searching for answers to the questions provided. At the end, students are invited to discuss the impact of different historical periods and the communities associated with them on the course of history and the present day.

For primary and elementary schoolschoolchildren (grade 1–8), the lesson is interactive: participants receive an individual assignment and, by exploring the exhibition, following the museum educator’s narration and questions, learn to identify artifacts from different eras, understand their significance, and share what they have learned with their classmates. At the end, students are invited to reflect on the impact of different historical periods on the present day.
