Riga Castle is both home to the Latvian National Museum of History and a building of outstanding architectural value. The Museum has been located here since 1920 and currently occupies the reconstructed wing of the oldest part of Riga Castle with the entrance from Daugavas gāte.

While the museum does not yet have any exhibitions, visitors have a unique opportunity to get to know Riga Castle in a form not seen for centuries by exploring the renovated premises: the vaulted cellars, the chapel, the refectory, and the Lead Tower. It is recommended to follow the castle’s sightseeing route and view the express exhibitions “Lost and Found” and “Then and Now”.

Groups can apply for guided tours. Educational classes for school groups are available.

In 2025, the museum will gradually begin installing new exhibitions at Riga Castle. The first exhibitions to be offered will be “Streaming Time” and “Livonian Castles”.
