
Museum lessons
The museum offers educational lessons for schoolchildren at its three locations – Riga Castle, Dauderi and the Popular Front Museum. These must be booked in advance by contacting the respective venue.

Several museum lessons for schoolchildren are available at Riga Castle – “Riga Castle. Eras and Inhabitants” and “Get to Know Riga Castle”.
In the “Explorer’s Attic” several lessons take place: “How did the Ancients Live?”, “My Latvia”, “Latvia in the 20th Century”, “Timeline of Latvia” and “Suitcase of the Ages”.

Get to Know Riga Castle
Grade 1–12
In the lesson, schoolchildren get to know Riga Castle – one of the best-preserved castles of the Teutonic Order in the Baltic Sea region with more than 500 years of history. The recently restored Riga Castle is not only an excellent monument of architecture and art, but also a witness to historical events – important decisions for Latvia were made in this building by the rulers of different times.

Grade 7–12
The lesson, dedicated to exploring Riga Castle, allows schoolchildren to interactively learn about the restored premises and history of the castle by taking on the role of the castle’s inhabitants from different eras.

Suitcase of the Ages
Grade 1–9
The lesson invites you to travel through the historical periods of Latvia, studying objects and trying to understand what has remained from previous centuries and how each period has shaped us. This is a great opportunity for everyone to see history as a living and exciting process in which we are also involved.

The lesson promotes understanding of the circumstances and processes sourounding the formation of the Latvian state, strengthens the idea of its value.

How did the Ancients Live?
Grade 5–9
In the lesson pupils stregthen their knowledge of ancient Latvian history by learning about various archaeological objects – weapons, tools, household items, ceramics, jewellery, and reconstructed clothing – and shape their skills to identify and describe various historical sources.

Grade 9–12
This lesson aims to introduce participants to how people lived in the territory of Latvia from the Stone Age to the present day, teaching them to recognise the characteristics of different time periods.
