Concert by Sergey Malov, Aina Kalnciema

In November, the 25th International Bach Chamber Music Festival concerts will take place at the Latvian National Museum of History  in Riga Castle. On 2 November  at 17:00, violinist Sergey Malov and harpsichordist, festival director Aina Kalnciema will give a concert as part of the festival.

Violinist, violist, and cellist Sergey Malov is celebrated for his artistry across multiple instruments, including baroque violin and the rare violoncello da spalla. His wide-ranging repertoire spans from early Baroque to contemporary premieres.

An award-winner at major competitions (Paganini Competition in Genoa, the Mozart Competition in Salzburg, the Heifetz Competition in Vilnius, and the Michael Hill Competition in Auckland), he has performed with top orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony, and Tokyo Philharmonic.

In recent seasons, Malov has appeared globally as a soloist and conductor, with highlights including the Budapest Festival Orchestra, La Cetra Barockorchester, and major festivals in Finland, New Zealand, and Japan.

His acclaimed recordings include works by Bach, Paganini, and Ysaÿe, with his Bach Cello Suites on violoncello da spalla earning an OPUS Klassik award. The videos with his Violoncello da Spalla have been viewed over one million times on the internet.

Harpsichordist Aina Kalnciema has performed in the United States, Canada, Australia, and numerous European countries, collaborating with outstanding orchestras, conductors, and soloists. She has participated in countless festivals across Europe, Canada, and New Zealand.
Kalnciema has shared the stage with Baiba Skride, Ivan Monighetti, Paolo Pandolfo, Erik Bosgraaf, Massimo Mercelli, Eva Binder, Ramon Jaffé, among many others.

Emerita Professor Aina Kalnciema taught harpsichord at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music from 1991 to 2020.

She is also well known as the President of the Bach Music Foundation and the Artistic Director of the International Bach Chamber Music Festival in Riga, which she founded in 2001. Aina Kalnciema is a member of the international early music organizations REMA and NORDEM.

In recognition of her lifelong contribution to the preservation of early music traditions and her outstanding professional work in Latvia and abroad, Aina Kalnciema has been awarded the Order of the Three Stars, the Certificate of Recognition from the Cabinet of Ministers, and numerous other honors.
