Who are we?
The Latvian National Museum of History is one of the oldest museums in Latvia, founded in 1869.
The museum’s collection contains more than one million objects and is the largest collection of Latvian culture and history in the world. The museum collects, preserves, researches, restores, exhibits, and communicates this history to the public.
Where are we and what are our open hours?
The museum is located in Riga at Pils laukums 3.
It is open:
Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 18:00,
Fridays from 10:00 to 20:00,
Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00.
On Mondays and Tuesdays the museum is closed.

What can I do at the museum?
The museum currently features the restored rooms of Riga Castle: the Vaulted Cellars, the Master’s Dining Hall (Refectory), the Chapel, the Lead Tower and the “Explorer’s Attic”. Four new exhibitions will open in autumn 2025. The museum hosts various events: lectures, tours, classes, concerts.
What is the entrance fee?
You can visit the museum by buying a ticket.
Visiting the premises of the Riga Castle:

Free entrance (presenting document):
preschool children,
students of special programs, orphans and children left without parental care,

students of psychosocial rehabilitation centers, disabled people and 1 person accompanying them,
students of history,
tour group leaders (1 person),
employee of Latvian museums,
ICOM members,
politically repressed persons,
large families (3+ Family Card).
Civilians of Ukraine have the right to visit the museum free of charge upon presentation of an identity document.

You can book a guided tour or museum lesson. It is a paid service:
guided tour for a group of up to 10 people 30 EUR + entrance ticket for each participant
guided tour for a group of 11 to 30 people 40 EUR + entrance ticket for each participant
museum lesson for a group of 7 to 30 people 4 EUR for each participant
Visiting an event organized in the museum (lectures, excursions, etc.) costs 3 EUR for each participant.

Where else can you visit the museum?
The Latvian National Museum of History has two divisions: Dauderi and Popular Front Museum. You can also learn about the history of Latvia there.
Dauderi
Dauderi is located in Sarkandaugava, Zāģeru iela 7. In the museum, you can visit the beautiful 19th century house, familiarize yourself with the exposition about the history of the house and Sarkandaugava, see the collection of Latvian objects in exile, the Collector’s cabinet and the restored kitchen. You can relax and organize events in the Dauderi garden.
Dauderi Division is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00.

Popular Front Museum
The Popular Front Museum is located in Old Town, Vecpilsētas iela 13/15, in the building where the Popular Front of Latvia was working at the end of the 20th century. The Popular Front of Latvia was the largest organization in Latvia that led the Awakening and restoration of independence. In the museum, you can familiarize yourself with documents, photographs, newsreels about the events of the Awakening period.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 17:00. Entrance to the museum is free.

Where are the museum’s collection and specialists located?
The Museum Storage holds the collection of approximately one million items – evidence of Latvia’s history and culture. They are stored in a specially built and equipped building in Riga, Pulka iela 8. Museum employees work in this building: management, researchers, custodians, restorers, chemists. The Museum Storage is open from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 16:00. Anyone can get acquainted with the collection or use items of the collection for publication, photography or other purposes. The visit must be booked in advance. It is a paid service.
