Procurement for the construction of the Riga Castle exhibition “Streaming Time”
Procurement for the construction of the Riga Castle exhibition “Streaming Time”
The application period for the production and installation of the Latvian National Museum of History first exhibition “Streaming Time” at the Riga Castle has been extended until 9 June. Due to various legal and bureaucratic obstacles, the procurement process for the exhibition has been extended several times, delaying the deadlines for the construction of the exhibition. At the moment, the construction of the exhibition is not expected to be completed until the beginning of 2026. The opportunity for visitors to explore the renovated rooms of the Riga Castle has also been extended until the start of the exhibition construction work, which is expected in September this year, and the content of the new classroom “Explorer’s Attic” is also suitable for schools and families.
Several new expositions and exhibitions are planned for the premises of the Latvian National Museum of History at Riga Castle – “Streaming Time”, “Livonian Castles”, “History of Riga Castle”, “Sacral Art”. The content of these exhibitions has been developed over a long period of time in anticipation of the Museum’s return to its historic home, and the technical designs for all the new exhibitions have now been finalised. Procurement for the production and installation of the “Livonian Castles” exhibition is also planned for this year.
The first exhibition “Streaming Time”, which will be housed in the 620 square metre of the Riga Castle, will tell the story of Latvia’s land and people throughout history from the earliest times to the present day. It will look at the flow of time through the lens of a person’s belonging to a particular group of people (ethnic communities, townspeople, religious congregation, social class, citizens of a country, etc.), highlighting the “we” of nine epochs and the interactions between different groups.
Identities, affiliations and the various elements that unite societies (social and economic system, laws and traditions, values, state and political structure, place of residence, etc.) are also important for today’s fragmented societies. Who do I belong to today? What unites me with the rest of society? Has the meaning and scope of belonging changed for each person? The content and design of the exhibition is intended to encourage the involvement of different audiences in the process of both learning about history and understanding the present.
The design and technical project of the exhibition has been developed by DJA Ltd.
The total estimated cost of the production and installation of “Streaming Time” is EUR 1 276 672, of which EUR 1 085 171 is funded by the European Union.
