Research. International partnership
Research is one of the core functions of the LNMH. The main results of research work in the Museum are the content of permanent and temporary exhibitions, publications, lectures, presentations, conferences, etc. The Museum regularly publishes catalogues and guides, as well as proceedings of scientific conferences and monographs, available in the Museum shop and partly in the LNMH eMuseum.
Research work is performed by various museum specialists (researchers, curators of the collections, restorers); however, primarily, it is the task of researchers in the LNMH Archaeology, Ethnography and Numismatics Departments, as well as the Medieval, Modern and Contemporary History Research Department. Research work in the Museum is coordinated by the Scientific Council. The long-term strategy for research work is defined in the Museum’s Research Policy.
In all areas of its activity, the Museum cooperates with external specialists, both in Latvia and abroad, ensuring the exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as an even higher quality and more varied offer for the Museum visitors. The Museum collaborates with renowned professionals in various fields; they participate in the Museum’s programmes of thematic events and lectures, conferences, collections of articles, as well as permanent and temporary exhibitions.
Historical examples of the Museum’s international cooperation are summarised on the LNMH digital resource site eMuseum
