Concert by choir “Aizkraukle” at Riga Castle on 6 December

The festive atmosphere at Riga Castle Museum continues with the concert “From the Baroque to Valdis Zilveris’ “Christmas”’, performed by the choir “Aizkraukle”  on 6 December at 15:00.

The concert programme includes excerpts from the sacred work “Gloria” in D major (RV 589) by the Italian Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi – the composer’s most famous and popular piece of sacred music. Vivaldi composed this work in Venice around 1715 for the choir and orchestra of the “Ospedale della Pietà”, an orphanage for girls and a music school.

The concert will also feature music by the early English Baroque composer Henry Purcell, songs by Valdis Zilveris from the production “Journey to the Christmas Star” and the “Winter Festival Cantata”, created in collaboration with conductor Andrejs Jansons and the New York Latvian Choir, which he lead. The programme also includes excerpts from Kārlis Skalbe’s childhood recollections of Christmas.

The concert will be hosted by Vanda Arnta-Laizāne.
Performers:
composer Valdis Zilveris,
organist and pianist Aija Ziņģīte,
and the “Aizkraukle” choir, conducted by Lelde Kamzole-Gagaine and Eduards Grāvītis.

Tickets: 5 euros (can be purchased before the concert).
