Concerts featuring music from different eras are held in various rooms of the LNMH at Riga Castle – on 13 March at 18:00, the concert “Conversations in the Salon. Music for Two Transverse Flutes” will be held in the sacristy, located on the second floor of the castle in the Lead Tower, which has not been used for musical performances until now.
During the concert, the transverse flute players of the Mītels ensemble – Kristīne Stumbure and Maija Kļaviņa – will take the listener on a musical journey to the 18th-century salon, a place in Europe where the most outstanding minds, musicians, artists, thinkers, and politicians of the time met. The story will focus on the outstanding intellectuals, musicians, artists, thinkers, and politicians. The story will focus on an outstanding personality – Sarah Levi (1761–1854), whose salon became a gathering place for Berlin’s most prominent musicians and scientists for many years.
Sara Levi was a versatile, talented harpsichordist, a student of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, as well as a patron of many composers of her time, a commissioner of works and a collector of manuscripts. The best known of these, whose music will also be featured in this concert story, are Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Joachim Quantz, and others.
This program is unique because only two transverse flute players will participate in its performance, highlighting the timbres of the transverse flute in close-up, virtuosity, and the diversity of repertoire composition techniques in a special salon atmosphere, sharing interesting facts about the composers included in the collection and their connection to Sarah Levi and the transverse flute.
