The LNMH acquires ERDF funding

The Latvian National Museum of History is using ERDF funding received last year to resume museum operations at Riga Castle, set up exhibitions, and create a children’s activity room.

With ERDF funding secured by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, five significant cultural heritage sites located in the historic center of Riga, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, will be revived in the coming years, including Riga Castle, home to the Latvian National  Museum of History. With the attracted ERDF investments – EUR 36.7 million – it is planned to renovate and develop the aforementioned sites, promoting their accessibility and expanding their innovative use in improving the quality of life of the community and strengthening the local community.

The Latvian National  Museum of History has invested the allocated funding – EUR 1,085,172 – in the most urgent projects: a classroom for children and schoolchildren, “Izziņas bēniņi” (education room “Explorer’s Attic”), which has been created on the 5th floor of Riga Castle, with one part dedicated to an exhibition on Latvian history for children and the other part – to a brief history of Riga Castle; an audio guide app in six languages has been developed to help visitors explore this unique medieval monument. The third project to receive ERDF funding is the latest exhibition on Latvian history, “Straumējot laiku” (Streaming Time), which is scheduled to open to visitors  in the spring of 2026.
